Vancouver is located in Southwest Washington just across the Columbia River from Portland Oregon. Vancouver is considered part of the Portland Metropolitan area, with downtown Portland just a quick 10 minute trip across the Interstate Bridge. Vancouver is the fourth largest city in Washington State and is home to the original Fort Vancouver, established in 1825. Battle Ground is a rural community about 15 minutes northeast of Vancouver and east of Interstate 5. Many of the homes surrounding Battle Ground are on acreage with great territorial views, but there are also several typical city subdivisions. Battle Ground Lake park, pictured above, is just minutes from downtown Battle Ground. Interestingly, Battle Ground is named for a battle that never happened. Ridgefield is a small town about 10 minutes north of Vancouver over looking the Columbia River and the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge. Washougal Washington is located about 10 miles east of Vancouver Washington in the Columbia River Gorge. It is a small community just east of Camas Washington. Many Washougal homes have lovely views of the Columbia River Gorge and the Washougal River. Washougal is home to Pendleton Woolen Mill, the Washougal Mill store is open to the public for some great discounts. Hockinson and Brush Prairie are rural communities located Northeast of Vancouver WA, in East Clark county, that share the zip code 98606. Many of the homes in Brush Prairie and Hockinson are on acreage. Both communities are known for their excellent schools, territorial views and numerous Blueberry farms. La Center is a city about 15 minutes north of Vancouver on the east side of I-5. The east fork of the Lewis river is just east of La Center, the area is considered part of the Lower Columbia Estuary and is known as a habitat for bald eagles. The city is home to three Card Room Casinos. The Cowlitz tribe will break ground in 2016 for a 368,000 sq ft Casino on the west side of I-5. Located just 20 minutes north from Vancouver and the Interstate bridge, Woodland Washington is small city of about 5500 citizens. The Lewis River runs thru Woodland and the area is known for outstanding salmon fishing. The famous Hilda Klager Lilac gardens are just west of town, now a National Historic Landmark maintained by the Lilac Society.
